Finding Peace with Food - With Special Guest, Andrea De Leon
Friday Dec 27, 2019
Friday Dec 27, 2019
In this episode, I have the privilege of interviewing Andrea De Leon, Nutritionist.
For years, food controlled her life.
She was bulimic for 6 years of my life and then a binge eater and emotional eater for another 6 years during high school and college.
She put all of her worth in her looks and never thought she was enough to fulfill her dreams and her desires.
Suicidal thoughts, antidepressants, anxiety medication, the whole 9.
She became a nutritionist to try to solve her problem and to help others going through the same thing but giving people meal plans never worked.
She then became a personal trainer, a health coach.
She even went for my holistic nutrition masters and nothing worked!
Until she finally started diving deep into personal development and the emotionality and psychology behind nutrition.
Digging deep into emotions and psychology has changed everything for her!
She finally found the root cause to all of her suffering and believe it or not it had nothing to do with food.
Food was just what she was using to numb, it was her drug, but the cause was so so much deeper.
She never thought she’d be where she is today.
She's opened up her own business.
She has the most amazing, loving relationship with her husband.
She finally stepped into her power and learned to have confidence and believe in herself.
She's the happiest she's ever been and it’s all been from doing the deep internal work and healing her emotions and beliefs.
She learned to trust and surrender instead of having to control everything around her.

The Importance of Connection on the Journey of Finding Peace
Friday Dec 20, 2019
Friday Dec 20, 2019
This week's episode is different from our traditional format. We have a special guest, and one of my best friends, Matt Wheeler, LPC
During Matt's growing up years, he was afraid to let others know that my family was in therapy, as there was often negative stigma and stereotypes attached to it. Gratefully getting help from a mental health professional today is more widely accepted. Matt strongly believes that we are not meant to be alone in this life. Sadly, many of us suffer difficulties that leave us feeling isolated and on our own. As a therapist, Matt quickly gravitated toattachment work and he loves to help individuals, couples, and families learn to connect and attach securely to each other. I have extensive training and practice in emotionally focused therapy (EFT) which is the “gold standard” for this attachment work. Matt is also a certified sex addictiontherapist (CSAT) and at Family Strategies Counseling Center. He has been a practicing mental health clinician since 2012.
In this episode, Matt discusses the hierarchy of connection and gives the listener tools and tips to help make a deeper connection.

Selfish vrs. Self-Love
Monday Dec 16, 2019
Monday Dec 16, 2019
In this episode, we begin exploring the difference between being Selfish and Practicing Self-Love. Selfishness stems from not knowing who we really are and thus we spend a tremendous amount of energy on ourselves as a form of self-protection. But, when we really know who we are, practicing self-love is our way of recharging our batteries so that we can continue to use our gifts and talents to bless the lives of others. When we know who we are, it is so much easier for us to step out of our Shadows of Shame and stand in our light.
You are also invited to reflect on those who have loved you. I'd love to hear your stories of how you loved someone else or how someone showed up for you!

Addressing Anger
Friday Dec 06, 2019
Friday Dec 06, 2019
In this episode, we explore one way to resolve anger. Anger comes from the sense that something is being taken from us without our consent or permission. Clarifying what that "something" is helps us to tell a new story and therefore shift the emotion.

I thought the Tenderfoot Race was an Initiation Ritual
Wednesday Nov 06, 2019
Wednesday Nov 06, 2019
In this episode I answer a question posed by Randall, on of our Finding Peace Retreat Alumni. His question was, "Why do so I tend to get stuck in reliving responses learned from the past where trauma was experienced and is often triggered?"
I explain the concept of wanting a do-over and how we tend to put ourselves in situations hoping for a different outcome.

A Year of Self Love
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
I am excited to announce the upcoming new book, A Year of Self-Love. In this episode, I share the epiphany I had over 25 years ago when I discovered why the old adage, "You can't love others unless you love yourself" was actually true. As much as I had tried to believe otherwise, I began to see it from another perspective.
Also in this show, we explore three points of the Self-Compassion Moment.
1. Honoring our wounds and validating that they hurt.
2. Recognizing that we are not alone in our suffering and that there are others who can relate to what we are going through.
3. Encouraging ourselves to be kinder to ourselves during the process.
